What Is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a procedure meant to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured, worn or discoloured tooth. A type of tooth-coloured resin (a durable plastic) is applied to the affected tooth and then hardened with a special light, which ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth to restore or improve a person’s smile.
How Does Cosmetic Dental Bonding Work?
It is a simple procedure. Your dentist will first clean the affected area where the bonding resin is to be applied. Then, a resin that matches your tooth colour will be chosen. The resin will be attached and molded to the shape of the tooth and applied layer by layer until the area has the desired look. Your dentist will then harden the resin using an ultraviolet light. Once the resin has hardened, any corrections will be made in order to ensure the tooth looks correct. The final step is to polish the tooth.
